Evening on Day 265 in year 53 of the Spire

The wet melting snow has finally stopped. Although it has grown much colder through the day. A lack of the pervasive moisture from the ocean has been a blessing, and most of my clothes have finally begun to dry.

As for our camp, we are moved back into the edge of the trees, but not fully into the forest. We have learned the lesson of avoiding the slight but continuous misting of water which rises from the chasm, and have stayed back from the river. Although we spent most of our entire day moving quickly along its treeless edge, we have opted to camp in the forest where we can tie up our tarps as shelter.

Nathan seems to be very pleased when I tell him that this may be the river near the Citadel. Likely he is pleased that we are heading back toward home.

If this is the case, Lorne has said nothing. I suspect that his intentions are to find a way across rather than return home empty-handed and early. I do not perceive our venture to be empty-handed. Already our map of the known world has expanded exponentially. I cannot wait until we return so that I can stitch this together with the Educates assigned to the other teams.

With some warm tea and some sleep, I believe we will be better prepared tomorrow to make these decisions.
